The controversy surrounding KL Rahul and Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka in IPL 2024 has finally been addressed by the businessman himself. The earful that KL Rahul received after the loss against an SRH match, went viral revealing tensions between the owner and the skipper.
The incident, which saw Goenka publicly schooling Rahul after a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, sparked widespread speculation about their relationship. Rumours circulated that Rahul would not be retained by LSG and might even be overlooked in the IPL auction. As predicted, Rahul was eventually picked up by Delhi Capitals with LSG not even batting an eye for their captain.
Sanjiv Goenka Calls KL Rahul Family, Wishes Him Success
However, Goenka has now clarified the situation, dispelling rumours of a rift between him and the former LSG captain. While he did not delve into specific details, he hinted at a mutual decision that led to Rahul's departure on the Ranveer Allahbadia show on YouTube.
"KL Rahul has always been a family member, and I know he will continue to be in the future. He captained Lucknow for three years and have shown great results during his tenure. I genuinely wish for his success, no matter what happens," Goenka said.
When the host asked for his opinion about KL Rahul, Goenka openly commended him, describing him as an honest person with substantial talent.
"He is a very honest and decent person and I wish that everything good happens to an honest person like him. He is also very talented and I wish he displays his talent to the world. I am very sure he will do well. My best wishes are with him," Goenka replied.
On his part, Goenka has pulled off the most expensive buy in IPL history by roping in Rishabh Pant for INR 27 crore. With five solid retentions including Nicholas Pooran and Mayank Yadav amongst others, LSG is looking strong both with the bat and the ball.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul was picked up by Delhi Capitals for just 14 crores, a significant drop from his previous salary of 17 crores with LSG. However, DC acquiring Rahul means the batter might be given the responsibility to lead the team in IPL 2025. So far, the wicketkeeper-batter has played 132 IPL matches amassing 4683 runs at a strike rate of 134.61 and averaging a modest 45.47.
