After ICC released its latest T20I rankings, Pakistan's cricketers have had a mixed bag of results. Mohammad Rizwan has made a significant climb in the T20I rankings, climbing two places to sixth position. However, Babar Azam has slipped two places to seventh.
Rizwan currently has 713 rating points, and Babar Azam has 710, which justifies Azam's recent poor form in the T20Is. Australia's Travis Head, however, has retained his position as the top-ranked T20 batter in the latest ICC rankings with 855 rating points. England's Phil Salt and India's Tilak Varma follow closely in second and third place, respectively.
Rizwan Inches Past Babar Azam In T20I Rankings
Placed just above India's young-gun Yashasvi Jaiswal, Babar Azam is currently having a lean patch in his T20I career. Except for the recent 3rd T20I against Australia, where he scored 41 off 28, Babar was not able to move past the figure of 3 in the series. In the recent match against South Africa, Azam's slump continued as he was gone for a duck to young Kwena Maphaka. The Pakistan veteran have so far played 127 T20I matches, bagging 4192 runs at an average of 39.92.
Mohammad Rizwan, meanwhile, has been in good form with the bat, coming fresh off with a 74 off 62 in the first T20I against South Africa. The Peshawar-born has played a total of 19 T20Is this year and has bagged a total of 606 runs at a strike rate of 118.1. In his career, Rizwan has played 105 T20Is and averaged 47.26 at a strike rate of 125.57.
Notably, in the T20I bowling rankings, Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi has made a significant jump giving his nation another reason to celebrate. He climbed six places to 20th position while England's Adil Rashid continues to lead the pack, followed by Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga and Australia's Adam Zampa.
