Sarfaraz Ahmed, the ex-Pakistan skipper, has set the records straight regarding his cricketing future. Speaking in an interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sarfaraz has assured that he has not retired and would decide to retire only when the time is apt.

Sarfaraz, Pakistan's ICC trophy-winning captain, last played for his nation in international cricket in December 2023. His last appearance was in a Test match against Australia.

Since then, he has been out of all format squads and recently, speculations around his retirement were raging on social media.

Sarfaraz Ahmed Breaks Silence On Retirement Buzz

Ex-Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who is currently serving as the Team Director of Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing PSL 10, said it’s not easy for a cricketer to step away from the game they have played all their life.

"I haven't announced my retirement yet. When someone has played cricket all their life, it obviously hurts to stay away from the game. There comes a time when every player has to step away from cricket, but I try to make the most of whatever matches I get," Ahmed said.

The experienced wicketkeeper-batter shared that he still has hope of returning to competitive cricket. Sarfaraz further made it clear that when the time is right, he’ll openly announce his retirement.

"I still keep some hope alive that maybe I’ll get another chance. I never said that I have to play for Pakistan — of course, it's every player’s dream to represent their country. I just want to perform well in whatever cricket I play and give my 100 percent. When I feel the moment has arrived, I’ll say it myself — yes, my cricket is over now," he further added.

For now, it seems Sarfaraz isn’t done with the game. His passion for cricket and willingness to give back are as strong as ever, on and off the pitch.

Sarfaraz Back In New Role For PSL 2025

Sarfaraz Ahmed will be back in the PSL as the team director of Quetta Gladiators for the 2025 season. The experienced cricketer, who led the team to their sole title in 2019, now assumes a leadership role off the pitch.

Saud Shakeel has been appointed as the new captain in place of Rilee Rossouw. With a new leadership structure and aggressive ambition, Quetta is looking to come back with a bang and pursue their second championship in PSL 2025.
