In a surprising move, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has parted ways with Quetta Gladiators ahead of the 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Sarfaraz made the announcement on Instagram, ending a long-standing relationship with the franchise that he had been a part of since the league’s inception.

Sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram, Sarfaraz posted a picture with Quetta Gladiators’ owner Nadeem Omar and expressed his gratitude for the nine-year journey.

“Today I want to tell you that my time with Quetta Gladiators has come to an end. I feel very proud that my journey of 9 years with this amazing team has been wonderful and beautiful,” he wrote.

He thanked Nadeem Omar for trusting him as a player and captain and providing everything he needed throughout his time with the franchise. Sarfaraz also extended his best wishes to the Gladiators and their management, giving special mention to Azam Khan, the team’s coach.

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Journey With Quetta Gladiators

Sarfaraz Ahmed has been the face of Quetta Gladiators since the first PSL season in 2016. He played 86 matches for the team, scoring 1,525 runs at an average of 29.32, with seven half-centuries to his name.

Under his captaincy, Quetta Gladiators lifted their maiden PSL trophy in 2019, making it their only title win so far. Sarfaraz was one of the most consistent players for the team and led them for eight seasons before being replaced by South African batter Rilee Rossouw as captain during the previous season.

However, things took a turn when Quetta Gladiators released Sarfaraz earlier this month, making him available in the PSL players’ draft for the first time ever.

Following his departure from Quetta Gladiators, there has been speculation about which team will sign Sarfaraz for the upcoming season. Many fans expected him to join his hometown team, Karachi Kings.

However, sources close to Karachi Kings told Geo Super that the franchise currently has no plans to pick Sarfaraz in the draft.
