Veteran Pakistani cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed has been signed as team director for Quetta Gladiators ahead of PSL 2025 edition. Ahmed who previously captained the team, will be seen in a new role going forward.

Pakistan cricket is in shambles following an early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy. Despite being the host nation, the team became the first team to get eliminated, leading to widespread embarrassment.

However, Pakistan will aim to win fans’ hearts again with the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Sarfaraz Ahmed Returns To Quetta Gladiators

In a major development for the PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed as the team director. This is a new era in his connection to the team, moving from a role on the field to a significant leadership role off the field.

The wicketkeeper-batter has been a pillar of the Gladiators’ squad since the league’s inception in 2016, leading them to their only PSL title in 2019.

Under his captaincy, the side regularly excelled in the first few years of the PSL, reaching three finals between 2016 and 2019. While Sarfaraz's presence on the field has lessened in the recent seasons, his dressing room influence and strategic insight are still important for the team.

Previously, Ahmed was also named mentor for the Champions Cup team, Engro Dolphins.

Saud Shakeel To Lead Quetta In PSL

Quetta Gladiators have reportedly appointed Saud Shakeel as their new captain for the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. The left-handed opener will assume the task from Rilee Rossouw, who captained the franchise in PSL 2024.

The move of appointing Saud Shakeel as captain is also a part of the Gladiators' new strategy to win their third PSL title. Shakeel, who was an important member of Quetta's batting unit in the previous season, would also be opening the innings. In PSL 2024, he showcased his aggressive intent, finishing with a strike rate of 141.67.
