'Have KL Rahul Bat Down The Order': Sanjay Manjrekar Embarrasses LSG Captain Ahead Of IPL 2024

A franchise that has impressive one-and-all in its two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons has been Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Led by India's KL Rahul, LSG finished third in both the 2022 and 2023 editions and looks all geared up for the upcoming season with several changes already.

LSG made an interesting trade during the IPL 2024 transfer window, swapping bowler Avesh Khan for opener Devdutt Padikkal, bringing in the latter from Rajasthan Royals.

Ahead of the IPL 2024, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has provided LSG with a drastic suggestion pertaining to Padikkal, which could also affect their skipper Rahul. Speaking to Star Sports, Majrekar stated that LSG could drop Rahul down the order, and have Padikkal open with Quinton de Kock for the upcoming season. 


Here's what Manjrekar said

"I have got a very drastic suggestion. Because they have got somebody like a (Devdutt) Padikkal in, open with Padikkal and Quinton de Kock because all good performances of Padikkal have come at the top. Have KL Rahul bat down the order. It will change KL Rahul’s T20 batting career and the fortunes of the franchise as well."

In 57 IPL games, Padikkal has slammed 1,521 runs, while, Rahul in IPL 2023 managed just 274 runs in nine matches. Interestingly, while Rahul opens for LSG, his position within Team India has moved from the top to the middle order.
