The year 2023 has been of Shubman Gill, having slammed 2,118 runs across formats with seven hundred and ten fifties.

While most of the runs have come in the white-ball format, in 5 Tests this year, Gill has scored 230 runs, according to his standards is less. Yet to fully blossom in Tests, Gill has found support from none other than former West Indies legend Brian Lara to break free in the red-ball format as well.

Lara, who holds the record for highest individual score in Test (401*) and First-Class (501*) cricket has stated that Gill could surpass both his humongous feats.

Speaking to Anandabazar Patrika, the 54-year-old batter hailed Gill as the "most talented batter of the new generation", asserting that the Indian opener's time will come soon given his already envious record in international cricket.

Here's what Lara said

"Shubman Gill can break both my records. Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records, He (Gill) can do it (break my records)."

"Gill didn't score a century (in the World Cup) but look a the knocks he has already played. He has centuries in all formats, has smashed a double hundred in ODIs and has also played many match-winnings in the IPL. I'm sure he will many ICC tournaments in the future."

In 18 Tests between 2020 and 2023, the newly appointed Gujarat Titans captain has scored 966 runs which include two centuries and four fifties. The young prodigy will travel to South Africa for Test and T20I series.
