[Watch] When Jasprit Bumrah Aced A Memorable Super Over Against Gujarat Lions' McCullum & Finch

One of Jasprit Bumrah's legacy-defining moments came during the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where the ace India and Mumbai Indians (MI) speedster nailed it with the ball during a 'Super Over' against the now-disbanded Gujarat Lions (GL).

Defending 12 off 6 in a Super Over tussle against Lions' renowned powerhitters Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum, the then-young turk delivered a pitch-perfect over where he kept executing his trademark yorkers and slow off-cutters to great impact.

Bumrah interestingly began with a tremendous yorker, which however didn't count since the bowler had overstepped the mark. But he didn't allow Finch to get underneath his next yorker off the free-hit delivery and made sure the right-hander couldn't execute his lap through the vacant fine-leg region but only got a single when the ball brushed his pads.

The right-arm seamer then made an adjustment to McCullum's shuffle across the crease and ended up bowling a wide on his off-cutter, which he wasn't too fussed about since he had just avoided a big stroke. The equation now read 9 off 5 balls but Bumrah looked ever so confident.

At that point, skipper Rohit Sharma looked slightly bemused and worried for his bowler even as Bumrah retained faith in his abilities and trusted his skill bank to provide MI the desired result. Under great pressure, the unorthodox quick persisted with his slow off-cutter the next ball, which dipped so much on McCullum's attempted slog that he missed it completely.

McCullum would've anticipated a yorker as a follow-up ball and stood deep inside his crease. But Bumrah double-bluffed him with another off-cutter that he again executed brilliantly to nullify the big-shot attempt. McCullum only got a single off a bye when wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel stumbled behind the stumps.

The next two balls were both attempted yorkers, of which Bumrah nailed the first one for a dot against Finch and gave away a single off the other. By then the equation had slipped out of Lions' grasp with 7 runs required off one delivery.

There was a chance McCullum could've tied the game even in the 'Super Over' with a maximum. However, it wasn't possible with Bumrah in such tremendous form as the great bowler only gave away a single off an off-cutter that McCullum once again failed to pick early.
