India for a while have struggled to find top-order batters, who could chance their arm, which in turn would add depth to the bowling. In the recently concluded World Cup, India did try out players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav were handed overs against Netherlands, but not Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer, who played a fine knock in the fifth and final T20I against Australia on Sunday, revealed that he has been longing to bowl for India.

Selected for the final two T20Is against Australia, Iyer scored a crucial 37-ball 53 at Bangalore, which helped India post a par score. Speaking to Jio Cinema, the 28-year-old stated strength and conditioning coaches have stopped the middle-order from bowling, having recently covered a back injury.

Here's what Shreyas Iyer said

"I have been longing to bowl, but the strength and conditioning coaches, they are right 'now you are not going to bowl for some time'. That's the sad part of it."

Interestingly, Iyer has bowled just 7.3 overs for India in international cricket and given away 43 runs without claiming a wicket. However, in 65 First-Class 140 List-A and 199 T20s, Iyer has picked up 10 wickets combined.

Meanwhile, Iyer, who had a terrific World Cup 2023, scoring 530 runs in 11 matches, will be next seen touring South Africa, having been selected across formats for India.
