Brief Scores | West Indies: 326-6 (48.5 overs) [Shai Hope: 109* (83), Alick Athanaze: 66 (65); Rehan Ahmed 2/40 (10), Gus Atkinson 2/63 (10)] defeated England: 325 All Out (50 overs) [Harry Brook: 71 (72), Zak Crawley: 48 (63); Gudakesh Motie, 2/49 (10), Oshane Thomas 2/57 (10)] by four wickets.

In a thrilling encounter at Antigua, West Indies thumped past England in the first One-Day International and have gained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Harry Brook's 71 Propels England To 325

Opting to bat first, England openers Phil Salt and Will Jacks provided the side with a brisk start, with the former scoring a rampaging 28-ball 45. Gudakesh Motie handed West Indies its first inroad, getting Salt, as Jacks followed suit departing for 26 off Alzarri Joseph's bowling.

Zak Crawley along with Ben Duckett kept the flow of runs going, but the latter managed just 20 before getting his stumps rattled by Yannic Cariah. Harry Brook joined Crawley (48), and the duo added 71 runs in no time before an unfortunate mix-up caused the latter's run out.

West Indies continued to get wickets, as skipper Jos Buttler's (3) poor form continued, and then Liam Livingstone (17), too, faulted.

Brook, unfazed kept the scorecard ticking and reached his seventh ODI fifty before falling to Romario Shepherd for a well-made 72-ball 71. All-rounder Sam Curran and bowler Brydon Carse's late surge ensured England reached past the par score, where the former slammed 38 and the latter remained not-out on 31.

Oshane Thomas cleaned up the tail, claiming two wickets as the visitors folded for 325.

Shai Hope's 109*and Romario Shepherd's cameo help West Indies edge past England

Chasing a stiff 326, Windies openers Alick Athanaze and Brandon King helped their side to a controlled start, adding 104 runs for the first wicket. Youngster Athanaze's good run continued as the left-hander struck his second ODI fifty, however, perished to Rehan Ahmed for 66.

King, too, fell soon, falling to Livingstone for 35. Captain Shai Hope and Keacy Carty consolidated but the latter fell for 16 to Carse, putting West Indies in trouble.

Former skipper Shimron Hetmyer did express his T20 skills, scoring a 30-ball 32, but fell victim to Gus Atkinson. Sherfane Rutherford became Ahmed's second wicket as Hope found himself running out of partners.

Hard-hitting all-rounder Romario Shepherd joined his skipper in the middle, and the pair unleashed havoc on England bowlers. Both added 89 runs for the sixth wicket, with Shepherd slamming 49 off 28 balls.

Meanwhile, Hope became the 11th West Indies batter to reach 5,000 ODI runs and also is the joint third-fastest in the world.
