Ravi Bishnoi Levels R Ashwin For Huge T20I Record After India’s 4-1 Series Win Over AUS

Young Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi added two more victims to his T20I tally through the course of his match-winning spell against Australia in Bengaluru. The leg-spinner dismissed raging opener Travis Head and attacking number four Aaron Hardie in quick succession, all while conceding just 29 runs from his four overs to keep Australia six runs away from their target.

Bishnoi eventually concluded his five-match tally with nine wickets, thus fittingly bagging the ‘Player of the Series’ award to headline India’s 4-1 triumph.

Remarkably, the 23-year-old bowling prodigy also equaled Indian spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin for a huge T20I record through his latest series haul against Australia.

Ravi Bishnoi equals Ashwin for this T20I record

Under-19 graduate Ravi Bishnoi made his T20I debut for Team India back in February 2022 at the Eden Gardens. While he is yet to be given an extensive rope in ODIs, the youngster has often stood out with the ball during his limited appearances in the truncated format of the game.

With several senior players distancing themselves from India’s five-match T20I series against Australia, Bishnoi was called back into team’s white-ball setup in lieu of next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies. The cricketer grabbed his opportunity with both hands by claiming five wickets across high-scoring Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram thrillers at a reasonable economy rate.

Overall, the 23-year-old finished his five-match tally with nine scalps to become India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in a single bilateral T20I series. He levelled up with Ravichandran Ashwin, who had previously also collected nine wickets during Sri Lanka’s three-match tour of India back in February 2016.

For his splendid run with the ball, Bishnoi also won tickets alongside India’s travelling T20I squad to South Africa next week. The ‘Men in Blue’ are slated to play three T20I matches against the Proteas between December 10 and December 14, and the fixtures serve as a testing ground for both sides on their paths to the forthcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
