In a nail-biting finish, West Indies prevailed over England in the first One-Day International, thanks to a record-setting knock from captain Shai Hope at Antigua.

Hope became Windies' 'Man of Crisis', and slammed his 16th ODI, which was also his quickest-ever while helping his side chase down 326 in the penultimate over, striking Sam Curran for three sixes in fours balls, enabling the hosts take a 1-0 lead.

Awarded the 'Man of the Match' award for his unbeaten 83-ball 109, Hope recalled a chat with former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, where the latter shared about the former's play style.

As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, the 30-year-old also lauded his teammates for putting in the hard yards and showcasing terrific responses across departments.

Here's what Hope said

"It [the century] was in a winning cause and thats all I play for. Happy that we won. I had a chat with MS Dhoni some time back and he told me that you always have a lot more time at the crease than you think and that stuck with me.

Shepherd was amazing. We got the win, started the series on a high and the aim is to repeat it next game. Their openers played really well, we need to try to start a bit better in the next game. We also had a few dropped catches, if you want to be the best team in the world, you also have to start playing like the best team in the world. Nice to see the openers taking responsibility, theyre both great players. Its about seeing how we can continue to repeat these performances."

Both teams will now clash in the second ODI on December 6 at the same venue.
