In a last over thriller, Rajasthan Royals held their nerves against Punjab Kings to clinch their fifth victory of the tournament. However, as another game with Punjab went down to the wire, RR captain Sanju Samson couldn’t help but wonder if a rivalry does exist between the two sides.

In a low-scoring thriller, PBKS managed to make a game out of 148 runs target as RR clutched a victory in the penultimate delivery of the game. 

With 10 needed off the final over, Hetmyer waited for the bad deliveries and smoked two sixes to clinch a last-over thriller for RR.

That being said, winning captain Sanju Samson was baffled as another IPL game against PBKS went down the wire. He finds amusing how the games between the two sides are getting tense each year.

"I don't know what's it with us and Punjab. The games are getting tense. It's quite funny and it's good to see," Samson said.

Samson also addressed the near fumble on the field, saying that his calls are not communicated to his fielders due to the loud noise from the crowd.

"We had some funny incidents from last year. But I'm really happy that everyone is eager to go and catch it. It gets bit tough when the stadium is full. But I have to tell my fast bowlers that it is easy for me to catch with gloves on," he added.

Furthermore, Sanju Samson credited Shimron Hetmyer’s composure to clutch in the final over.

"Hetmyer has been doing that for years and years. That's composure and skills. It was great to see him and Powell do those things," Sanju added.

Moreover, Samson also defended the RR management’s choice of promoting Tanush Kotian to the top of the order, saying the middle order had settled itself and that he didn’t want to mess with the lineup for just one game. 

"Tanush is a very interesting player. He had an outstanding Ranji trophy and everyone is impressed on seeing him  bat in the nets. We had a proper settled batting line-up and we didn't want to disturb that for one game," RR captain opined. 

Sanju Samson was also relieved to see Yashasvi Jaiswal finally get some runs after a horror start to the IPL 2024 season.

Overall, the RR captain affirmed that the tournament is fiercely competitive and that he cannot relax and take future games for granted.
