'If RR Lose Today, Blame Kotian,' Fans Target RR Opener's Slow Innings Vs PBKS

Batting all-rounder Tanush Kotian was promoted as an opener by Rajasthan Royals (RR) on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut. However, after the move failed, fans on the internet mercilessly trolled Kotian as well as the team management for dubious tactics in a crucial chase against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Rajasthan faced Punjab Kings in an IPL 2024 fixture earlier today. The RR bowlers did a fine job by restricting PBKS to a below-par total of 147 runs.

However, RR management baffled the fans by sending batting all-rounder and debutant Tanush Kotian up the order as opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

With Jos Butler out due to niggle, RR trusted Kotian to produce damage in the powerplay. However, the bold tactic fell flat on RR's face as the all-rounder looked uncomfortable throughout his innings, which came to an end in the ninth over courtesy to Liam Livingstone.

Twitter angry on Tanush Kotian!

Tanush Kotian played extremely slow at an abysmal strike rate of 77.42 and put RR's chase in jeopardy. Naturally, the fans on Twitter, understandably baffled by the move, shifted blame on team management.

Kotian, who plays as a Number 9 batter in domestic cricket for Mumbai, failed as an opener in his debut IPL game. While the tactic was equally surprising, fans didn't spare Kotian as well.

IPL has witnessed many bowlers capable of batting a little open inning for their team, especially when exploiting field restrictions. However, Kotian's failure against PBKS offered trolls another reason to throw a backlash.

That being said, despite Tanush Kotian's brutal debut with the bat, RR finds themselves in the driver's seat due to depth in the middle order. Also, the target on board is well within control, and RR must secure a win here with ease.
