In a heartfelt tribute, Matthew Hayden, the legendary Australian opener, has heaped praise on Rahul Dravid, underscoring his remarkable grace and integrity. Hayden, who was invited to speak at the Ceat Cricket Rating Awards where Dravid received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award,’ reflected on Dravid's iconic innings with VVS Laxman at Eden Gardens.

Hayden highlighted how Dravid's dignified approach both on and off the field has cemented his reputation as one of cricket's true gentlemen.

"Sadly, from an Australian cricket point of view, it was the incredible partnership that he had up at Eden Gardens. There was nothing more sacred but that partnership with VVS Laxman. We walked onto the bus that day up in Kolkata and there was a fresh box of Cuban cigars and Michael Slater said we'll be smoking these at the end of the day and we'll have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," Hayden said.

"Well, you had something to say about that batting all day with VVS Laxman in an extraordinary partnership. Obviously, the one in Adelaide as well was just something else. Under pressure, Australia put everything on the line against Rahul and did it with great grace, great composure, and always a great sense of fairness. In a game, which can tempt you to win at all costs Rahul Dravid won on the principles of cricket and the principles of life," he concluded.

The 2001 Test match at Eden Gardens remains etched in cricketing history, thanks to Dravid and Laxman's monumental partnership. Facing a formidable Australian team, Dravid and Laxman stitched together a record-breaking 376-run stand, leading India to a remarkable comeback victory.

Dravid's contribution of 180 runs was pivotal, complementing Laxman's unbeaten 281. This innings not only highlighted Dravid's technical brilliance but also his unwavering resilience and character under pressure.

Rahul Dravid's New Role With Rajasthan Royals

Recently, Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. This announcement comes shortly after Dravid's successful tenure as India's national coach, where he led the team to victory in the T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Dravid's return to the Royals, where he previously captained and later mentored, marks his second stint with the franchise.
