Rahul Dravid Excited For His Homecoming with Rajasthan Royals: 'This Is My Home'

The speculations are finally over and Rahul Dravid, the former India coach has been appointed as Rajasthan Royals' head coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. In his recent tenure as the India head, he lead the team to the T20 World Cup glory in USA/West Indies.

Dravid comes back home after 10-long years

Dravid has been closely associated with the franchise, having played for them in the IPL. Moreover, the former player has also mentored the side during the 2014 season, before moving to the Delhi Daredevils in the same mentorship role.

Post his journey with the Daredevils, Dravid became the head coach of the India Under-19 team, and led the 2018 batch to the Under-19 title.

Now fast forward, almost 10-years later, Dravid will return back to his 'home' the Rajasthan Royals and will work closely with the Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, who served as the RR head coach for the past 4 seasons.

Dravid's first task will be to assemble a strong core in the IPL auction ahead of the next season. The former India coach, spoke on his homecoming with the Royals, and stated that he is eager to take the next challenge in his life.

"I am pleased to be returning to the franchise I have called 'home' for a number of years in the past," he said. "After the World Cup, I feel it's the ideal time for me to take on another challenge, and the Royals is the perfect place to do that.

"A lot of hard work and deliberations from Manoj, Jake, Kumar and the team has gone into the progression that the franchise has made over the past few years. It's an exciting opportunity for us to take this team to the next level given the kind of talent and resources we have at our disposal and I'm looking forward to getting started."

Dravid, a cult hero at Rajasthan Royals

Dravid played for the franchise for three-years, - 2011-2013, but in those three years, he built a strong team and played some memorable knocks, which will forever be etched in Rajasthan's history books.

He was an immensely popular figure in the dressing room, and helped the team develop youngsters like Sanju Samson, who himself credits Dravid for the development of his game.
