Known for unreal spin bowling abilities, the young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has burst onto the international cricket scene in 2022. However, despite his early brilliance, the young leg-spinner has been missing from the Indian squad in recent times.
As time the competition gets tighter with time to secure a place on the side, Ravi Bishnoi thinks it's a healthy competition as he has been satisfied with his journey with ups and downs.
Reflecting On His Journey So Far
After shattering the bowling leaderboard with exceptional bowling actions, Ravi Bishnoi received his maiden India call-up in 2022 and stunned the cricket world, bagging 2 wickets in the debut T20I match and secured the Man of the Match award. Representing the country in 42 T20Is and a lone ODI, Bishnoi has been a big miss in India’s squad lately.
In a recent interaction, the bowler reflected on his journey. Admitting to ups and downs as integral parts of any sport, he summed it up simply and positively, saying, "Good so far."
“It has been good so far. The (IPL) franchise has also shown the faith in me, it’s been a good graph, ups and downs are part of any sport but I have been patient and working on my skills and my processes.” Bishnoi said.
Healthy Competition Doesn’t Put Pressure
Over time, a lot of youngsters grabbed the limelight with unreal cricket talents and came up on the big stage. As cricket becomes more competitive, Bishnoi believes it's all part of a healthy competition as everyone needs to be patient to make a mark.
“It’s good for Indian cricket overall because the more the competition grows, the more cricket will develop. It’s a healthy competition, whoever is getting the chance is doing good and (you) just (have to) wait of your turn and whenever chance you get you just make (the) most of it.” he said.
With IPL 2025 in full swing, it's the perfect platform for rising stars to shine. Playing for the Lucknow Super Giants, Bishnoi secured 8 wickets in 9 clashes with an economy rate of 10.44 in this season. Far from feeling the pressure, the spinner sees the IPL as a golden opportunity to showcase his skills and seize the opportunities.
“No pressure as such, because IPL is there so you get opportunities to prove yourself and when you get the chance you need to prove yourself for Indian cricket as well,” he said.
As the competition has become tougher in the IPL 2025, the Lucknow Super Giants are standing in the 6th position of the points table with 10 points. As they are set to face the Mumbai Indians in the next clash, LSG will be hungry for a vital win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
