Rishabh Pant's captaincy for Lucknow Super Giants has been a hot topic throughout this ongoing IPL 2025 season, drawing attention from both fans and cricket pundits. Despite the team doing well and being in a strong position on the points table with a chance to make it to the playoffs, Pant's captaincy has remained a point of discussion.
The keeper-batter’s batting form has been a matter of concern as well which have certainly made things difficult in the middle-order for the Super Giants. In eight innings, he has managed just one half-century, and that too came in a losing cause. His average stands at a low 13.25, with a strike rate of only 96.36, which is far below expectations from a player of Pant's ability.
Marsh Voices Support for Pant as Leadership
The entire team has really stepped up at times together with batting efforts of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran keeping the team ahead while Digvesh Rathi has been their find of the season with the ball. Now, ahead of an important clash against Mumbai Indians on Sunday afternoon at Wankhede, Marsh spoke to the media and backed Pant, praising his leadership quality.
"Look, I think he's really growing into a role and he is still reasonably young, but, yeah, he is a good leader. And, yeah, he is just getting better and better,” Marsh said.
Marsh has been a part of IPL for some time now and is having the best campaign of his career. The explosive opener is playing solely as a batter and has already amassed 344 runs this season, giving Lucknow Super Giants strong starts in the powerplay with his aggressive stroke play.
He has also shed light on his bowling and said he is ready to contribute whenever the team requires him on the field with the ball. Commenting on the team’s overall performance, the Western Australian cricketer believes they have what it takes to make the playoffs.
Currently placed sixth, the Lucknow Super Giants are in a crucial phase, fighting to stay in the top-four race to qualify for the playoffs. They will first need to overcome an inform Mumbai Indian away from home and make it six wins to have a better look at the qualification with four more games in hand.
