Ever since Pat Cummins was appointed as Australia's Test captain, whatever he has touched has turned into gold. The talismanic bowler first won the World Test Championship (WTC) title by defeating India in the final and kept on doing wonders in the ODI World Cup as well, beating the same opposition.

And now, Cummins is now on the cusp of taking his standards to a new level. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were struggling for a while in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have now reached the final this season under Cummins' leadership. They are all set to face Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday in Chennai, and Cummins' triumph could make him one of the greatest-ever captains in the history of the game.

Cummins lost his mother, Maria, in March 2023. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and battled it till the very end. Recently, the 31-year-old Australian remembered exactly what exactly his mother told him to keep on going, which encouraged him a lot to reach certain heights.

"My mother told me that 'Pat, go and take on the world. Someone's going to go and do these wonderful things, it might as well be you," Cummins said on The Test - Season 3.

Will Cummins carry on the momentum by defeating KKR at Chepauk in the much-anticipated final? Well, if he succeeds, there is no doubt that he will be compared with the greatest captains of all time, if not referred to as the greatest.
