In what turned out to be a dramatic finish, RR lost to SRH by 36 runs despite having an edge in the chase and crashed out of the playoffs as SRH confirmed a finals clash with KKR for Sunday.

RR did a good job by restricting SRH to 175 runs in the first innings before a collapse led to a 36 runs loss as the middle order, including captain Sanju Samson failed to step up. SRH, meanwhile, were clinical with the ball and executed plans perfectly to book a seat in the finals.

Here’s the timeline of how SRH vs RR panned out in Chennai-

SRH vs RR Highlights: Trent Boult, Avesh Khan Topples SRH’s Top Order

Trent Boult was on absolute fire on the eve of the Qualifiers 2 as he dismissed Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram in his opening spell as SRH were three down for mere 57 runs on board in the powerplay.

And before SRH could rebuild things, Avesh Khan removed Nitish Reddy and Abdul Samad in the 14th over to put RR on top.

SRH’s last hope of a big total, Heinrich Klaasen, fell prey to Sandeep Sharma’s master class in the 18th over as SRH finished with 175 runs total.

SRH Vs RR Highlights: Yashasvi Jaiswal Regains His Form

Meanwhile, RR kicked off the chase on a high courtesy to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s firepower in the powerplay. Despite Tom Kohler-Cadmore's early wicket, with a 19 run sixth over, RR put together 51 runs in the powerplay and advanced into a comfortable stage.

SRH vs RR Highlights: RR Witness Unwarranted Collapse

However, RR lost the plot after Jasiwal’s wicket as Riyan Parag and R Ashwin bowed down to Shahbaz Ahmed. Ahmed picked up two wickets on the trot in the 12th over as RR was reduced to 79/5.

SRH vs RR Highlights: SRH Enters IPL 2024 Finals With Exceptional Bowling Efforts

SRH caused chaos amongst RR's batting lineup with tight bowling, and Dhruv Jurel’s fighting 56* (35) went in vain as RR fell short of as many as 36 runs in the chase.

Needless to say, RR have only themselves to blame as the middle order bottled up an easy chase. On the other hand, SRH must be given credit for clinical efforts with the ball, as their aggressive approach will take them to the finals of the IPL 2024 season.
