The upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season is already making headlines, with stalwarts Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal set to don new jerseys.

Shakib returns to Rangpur Riders, parting ways with Fortune Barisal, and making room for Tamim, who exits Khulna Tigers.

The auction, slated for Sunday, September 24 will be a grand spectacle featuring 443 overseas players, including big names like Babar Azam, Rashid Khan, and Wanindu Hasaranga among others. Parallelly, the BPL governing council has readied a draft of 203 local players, divided across six pricing categories.

Topping the valuation chart in the A category is Bangaldesh veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, tagged at BDT 80 Lakhs. The list continues with four in the B category priced at BDT 50 Lakh, 18 in C category at BDT 30 Lakh, and so on, with the G category featuring 45 players valued at BDT 5 Lakhs.

However, a notable surprise is the D category listing of senior player, Soumya Sarkar, who is in contention for the World Cup 2023 squad. Sarkar, freshly included in the Bangladesh ODI lineup against New Zealand, was poised to shine in the inaugural match, sadly interrupted by rain.

In contrast, Nasir Hossain, the former all-rounder and captain for Dhaka, will be absent from the auction. Hossain is currently ensnared in corruption charges by the ICC, pertaining to the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

With investigations underway, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has prudently sidestepped his inclusion in the draft. The charges against Hossain range from undisclosed gift receipts to non-cooperation with corruption inquiries.
