The India-Australia ODI series started on a high note for the home team as they clinched a five-wicket victory over the visitors in Mohali on Friday. A significant contribution to this victory was the 74-run knock by Shubman Gill.

Gill realizes dream of playing international cricket at PCA Stadium

For Gill, playing at the PCA Stadium in Mohali was a realization of a long-held dream.

Recalling his early days, Gill, while speaking to Jio Cinema, shared how he dreamt of playing an international match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. He reminisced about the time when, as a 7-year-old, he first visited Mohali, witnessing numerous matches as a mere spectator.

Gill stated that while he has played a few IPL games at the venue, representing India in an international fixture in front of his family was special.

“I was 7 years old when we came to Mohali for the first time. Since I had seen so many matches here as a spectator, it was a dream for me to play an international match in Mohali. I'd played a couple of IPL matches but to play an international match with my family watching was special,” said Shubman Gill.

Gill also lauded fellow players Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan for their commendable efforts whenever they have gotten the opportunity to show their talent.

“Both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have grabbed their opportunities. They are all very eager to perform and are showing it when they get a chance,” added the prodigious opener.

Furthermore, emphasizing his strategic approach to the game, Gill conveyed that he keenly understands when to take the offensive and when to adopt a defensive strategy. He added that fans can anticipate his adaptive playstyle at the upcoming World Cup 2023 as he aims to adjust his game according to the opposition and pitch conditions.

“I feel my strength is to know when to attack and when to defend. You can expect me to play according to the situation at the World Cup. I will try to adapt to the opponents and conditions and give myself the best possible chance to do well,” concluded Gill.

Meanwhile, after taking a 1-0 lead in Mohali, the Indian team will now face off against Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24.
