Azam Khan smeared a match-winning 27-ball 54 against defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs in the second qualifier of the CPL 2023 season. The Pakistan-based Guyana Amazon Warriors wicketkeeper spared no one in his dead-eyed tonking at Guyana, not even fellow national and senior speedster Mohammad Amir.

The youngster walloped Amir for nearly a third of his runs in a space of just three deliveries in the penultimate over of the Warriors’ innings. Azam Khan’s motorised acceleration eventually lifted his side to a monumental 182 at the end of their 20 overs.

Azam Khan, who arrived to the crease at 92-3 in the 13th over of the Guyana Amazon Warriors innings, smeared 54 scintillating runs to nearly double his side’s total in a space of the next 45 deliveries.

The cricketer took a special liking to Pakistan pace legend Mohammad Amir, as part of his late overs surge in the penultimate over of the innings. The 25-year-old clipped Amir for two sixes and a four in three balls of the over as Warriors charted a competitive 182-6.

Guyana Amazon Warriors bowlers Dwaine Pretorius and Imran Tahir tendered Jamaica Tallawahs voiceless in their run-chase approach by folding them up for just 101 in 15.2 overs.

Senior all-rounder Imad Wasim charted an unbeaten 43 for the defending champions, while only two other batters in the line-up barely managed to reach the double-digits in the innings.

Warriors’ 81-run win in their qualifier meeting against Tallawahs took them through to the finals, where they will face the Trinbago Knight Riders at the same venue on September 24.
