Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir poked fun at Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy skills. In a television interview, he said that Rizwan’s leadership has gone from as skilled as a Ferrari car to the pace of a wrecked auto rickshaw.
Pakistan, hosting the Champions Trophy 2025, became the first team to exit the tournament after two repeated losses.
While the whole team was criticised for their underwhelming performance, captain Mohammad Rizwan has come under fire over his incompetent leadership skills.
Amir takes sly dig at Rizwan’s captaincy downfall
Pakistan’s former pace spearhead Mohammad Amir has taken a brutal dig at Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy, comparing his leadership transformation to a dramatic downgrade.
“Mohammad Rizwan… You’ve gone from a Ferrari to a rickshaw now (laughs). At one point, I admired him because he had experience captaining domestic cricket and the PSL, where he led his team to the finals. His decision-making changed completely. I’m not sure what caused this shift since I haven’t been in the dressing room with him during that period. His choices now seem unusual," Amir said.
Amir, formerly a great fan of Rizwan's leadership in local cricket and the PSL, complained about the decision-making capabilities of the wicketkeeper-batter as the skipper of Pakistan.
The left-arm pacer admitted that he had high expectations from Rizwan when he took over Pakistan’s white-ball captaincy in October 2024, hoping that he would bring positive changes.
However, Amir believes Rizwan has drifted away from the cricketing mindset within just a few months.
Rizwan to be Sacked as Pakistan T20I Captain?
In a dramatic twist, PCB is reportedly set to sack Mohammad Rizwan as the T20I captain following Pakistan’s disastrous Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. There are reports that Shadab Khan is in line to replace him.
As per Pakistani reporter Ejaz Wasim Bakhri, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has decided to drop Rizwan as captain of T20I. The board is set to cut down his workload and therefore he won't be leading the team against New Zealand in the next T20I series.
