In the past few years, the Pakistan cricket team has been dealing with their shaky form. From bilateral series to ICC events, their struggle to perform better has remained consistent. As a result of that, criticism has come all the way for them.
Adding to this, their recent exit from the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 made the criticism more sharp. Amid the backlash, former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has called for keeping 90s-era cricketers away from Pakistan cricket.
Rashid Latif’s Recent Remarks
The Pakistan cricket team has always been known for producing cricketing powerhouses. Known for world-class bowling, Pakistan cricket is now struggling on the world stage. After 2017, they are still in search of the ICC trophies. Addressing Pakistan’s decline, former skipper Rashid Latif recently made a bold and unexpected statement.
“It took 17 years [for Pakistan to win another World Cup] because the 90s players did not spare Pakistan cricket. Keep 90s players away from management and from the team as well then they will try to win.” Latif said.
“They have been serving Pakistan cricket for so long now. So, I think, they should rest now,” he added.
Pakistan’s Horrible Run Dashes Their Champions Trophy Hope
After 29 years, Pakistan got a chance to arrange an ICC event as the Champions Trophy is taking place on Pakistani soil. Despite being the host, their horrible performance knocked them out only after their second group stage match. A loss to New Zealand set the tone, followed by a crushing defeat against arch-rivals India, sealing their early exit.
Even in their home condition, Pakistan failed to dominate their opponents. Despite promising starts, they failed to capitalize the moment, leading to disappointing defeats. Their final group-stage clash against Bangladesh ended without a result, leaving them winless and marking a heartbreaking end to their Champions Trophy campaign.
