While international players became millionaires at the recently concluded IPL 2024 auction, the Indian homegrown uncapped players didn’t stay behind. A couple of promising talents, such as Shubham Dubey and Sameer Rizvi, amongst many others, bagged a handsome contract.

Sameer Rizvi, in particular, grabbed many eyeballs as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won his bid at the cost of 8.40 crores, thus making him the costliest uncapped pick of this year’s auction.

The Meerut born rose to fame during the UP T20 league, wherein he slammed 455 runs across nine innings for Kanpur Superstars, including two centuries.

Not only that, Rizvi scored ample runs in the domestic circuit as well. The lower-order batter smashed 18 sixes in 11 T20s and accumulated 295 runs at an impressive average of 49.16. Besides, the 20-year-old previously featured in U19 tournaments and the India-B team.

Though the youngster is traditionally a finisher, he can bat at any given slot. His flexibility and hitting prowess impressed IPL scouts the most.

Sameer Rizvi reveals batting favourites

Needless to say, Sameer Rizvi is the new emerging star of Indian cricket. Meanwhile, ahead of the mega IPL season, Rizvi revealed three of his batting idols, whom he followed throughout his professional cricket journey.

In an interview with News 24, Rizvi named MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell as his top three favorite batters across the globe. The UP native is impressed with Kohli’s game awareness and wants to adapt the same in his batting style.

"I am a big fan of Dhoni, Virat & Maxwell batting," Rizvi said to News 24.

As far as MS Dhoni is concerned, Sameer intends to pick up the captain’s brain during his stint with CSK. Moreover, as a finisher, he takes cues from Maxwell’s firepower and visualizes himself doing the same for Indians someday in the future.

The goal for Sameer Rizvi is to create an impact so hard that the national team’s doors never stay closed for him. Not only that, Rizvi intends to be a regular player for the Indian side and not a one-hit wonder.
