Kevin Pietersen indicated he is aware of the reason why Indian batting legend Virat Kohli had withdrawn from the first two Tests of the England series but refused to share it openly with cricket lovers.

The former English skipper didn't want to lead to any rumours in the manner that Kohli's friend and South African legend AB de Villiers did by suggesting the great player could be expecting his second child.

Pietersen respected Kohli's privacy while stating how much the family means to the modern-day Indian maestro, who has had speculations rife on his availability for the final three Tests against England in Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamshala.

Pietersen On Kohli's Ongoing Absence

Speaking with fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle on 'TalkSport', Pietersen he might be aware of why Kohli withdrew his name from the Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, but refused to open the lid on it and instead talked of the player prioritising his family.

The former Indian captain and his wife Anushka Sharma are excepting their second child, after Vamika Kohli who was born in January 2021.

When asked by Bhogle if he has any information on Kohli and whether he is available to play from the third Test in Rajkot, Pietersen said, "I might", before adding: "But I don't know these things can change in a dime. He was in Hyderabad, then he left Hyderabad."

"Family is very, very important for Virat Kohli and he's achieved what he has in the game. Many wish they could achieve half of what Virat Kohli has in the game and he is allowed to spend time with his family and allowed the luxury to almost pick and choose because of what he has achieved in the game," he added.

Doubts on Kohli's availability have kept India's selection committee waiting before announcing the squad for the last three Tests of the marquee England series. The selection panel could be picking the squad after the completion of the second Test in Visakhapatnam.
