Rohit Sharma Gives Dhoni For Money; Pulls Reflex Catch In Just 0.45 Seconds

Often criticised for his fielding and fitness standards, Indian captain Rohit Sharma managed to take an outstanding reflex catch in the first session on Day 4 of the Visakhapatnam Test against England.

As premier off-spinner R Ashwin extracted an outside edge off Ollie Pope's bat, Rohit somehow got his hands in the way while the ball threatened to flush past him at the wideish first-slip placed there since the cut strokes from Englishmen went squarer on a low-bounce deck.

The catch was a tremendous one and critical in the context of the game as India managed to build inroads into the aggressive English batting line-up defending the imposing target of 399 on a pitch becoming progressively tough for survival and scoring.

Rohit Takes 0.45-Second To Catch Pope's Edge

An equally remarkable aspect of the catch was the timing of it as it took Rohit only 0.45 to react and bag the catching opportunity off Pope's outside edge. The Indian skipper's reaction catch was measured and timed by broadcasters 'JioCinema' and it shocked the viewers that it was taken in the blink of an eye.

Rohit is rarely ever given credit for his fielding contributions but here he was bagging a pivotal wicket for his team, with Pope having emerged as a thorn in Indian flesh in the first Test in Hyderabad with a marathon knock of 196

His wicket was always critical for India first up after the departure of England's nighthawk Rehan Ahmed. The batter did get set after quickly reaching 23 off 20 deliveries. But he couldn't survive the 21st after Ashwin got one to jump up off a length and extracted the outside edge towards Rohit.

Rohit gave an excellent account of himself in this instance by taking an exceptional catch on pure reflexes, contributing handsomely in the field after missing out with the bat in either innings.
