Australia outclassed England in all aspects of the game during their high-profile World Cup 2023 standoff at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Trouncing the defending champions by 33 runs, the win granted Australia their fifth in succession, which also consigned England to their fifth defeat in a row this tournament.

Australian spinner Adam Zampa was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round efforts, considering his dynamic spectacle featured three wickets, some sensational catching and handy death-overs runs for his side upfront.

Adam Zampa reflects Australia’s comprehensive win

After the match, Adam Zampa stated that the Australian team stuck to its basics as they were defending a tough total on a “dewy” wicket against England.

The cricketer claimed that summing up conditions proved to be decisive for his side as they ended up taking a step closer in securing a top four finish in the competition. During the post-match presentation, the 31-year-old said:

“Yes, I think summing up the conditions was important. The total was good but it was a tough total to defend. The ground got dewy and it was tough to grip the ball. It was about sticking to basics and bowl well in the end.”

Apart from claiming figures of 3-21 with the ball, Adam Zampa also listed a 19-ball 29 and formed handy runs with Mitchell Starc in the death overs. The Australian veteran revealed the mindset he shared with Starc, and hailed the significance of his side’s win over their arch-rivals.

“During the batting innings, just told Starc to bat positively and hang in there and help us score the runs. It was all about being positive out there. It was one of those days where everything clicked for us and took the catch well.”

Australia will now face Afghanistan in their penultimate World Cup 2023 group fixture on November 7. The match will be hosted by the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
