Former Indian cricketer and a legend from Mumbai setup, Wasim Jaffer, thinks that during the most important moments of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024; Virat Kohli will display his true colours.

Despite a tough start, with Kohli scoring just five runs in three innings on difficult New York pitches, Jaffer remains optimistic about his performance.

Virat Kohli entered the tournament after an impressive IPL 2024 season, where he was the leading run-scorer with 741 runs.

Wasim Jaffer confident In Kohli's comeback

Kohli has been opening the batting for India, a change from his usual No. 3 spot, and Jaffer supports this decision. Wasim Jaffer is confident in Kohli’s ability to bounce back.

"Rohit and Virat have been playing on the tough New York pitch, so they aren't quite among the top run-scorers. But do not write off Virat Kohli. As the tournament gets to its business end, he will show his true colours and he will show his greatness. I had picked Virat Kohli as the highest run-scorer and I will stick to him," Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.

"I don’t think Virat Kohli should bat at No. 3. He should continue to open because now you have got Rishabh Pant at No. 3 and it has been working well. You ideally want a left-hand right-hand opening combination and while you have Jaiswal, that doesn’t seem possible," he explained.

Jaffer also emphasised the importance of a proactive approach during power-play overs.

"You will need to be proactive in the powerplay. You will reach nowhere if you play cautiously on such pitches because the bowler knows he has to bowl on the spot and let the pitch do the rest. We have seen players like Rishabh Pant get rewarded for their bravery and that's the way you need to play with the powerplay restrictions," he added.

With India's final Group A game against Canada in Florida on June 15, Jaffer suggests considering Sanju Samson for the No. 4 spot if Shivam Dube, who has had limited opportunities, is left out.

India has qualified for the Super Eight stage with three wins, but Kohli's form remains a concern. However, Jaffer is confident that Kohli's greatness will emerge when it matters most.
