Bangladesh emerged victorious over the Netherlands in a gripping encounter at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, on June 13, in their Group D clash of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs, clinching a crucial 25-run win.

Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan led the charge with an unbeaten 64 off 46 balls, supported by Mahmudullah's valuable 25 runs.

On the bowling front, Rishad Hossain took three crucial wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman also contributed significantly, with Mustafizur conceding just 12 runs in his four overs and picking up one wicket.

Shanto Praises Team's Character

Bangladesh's skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his delight with the team's performance. Reflecting on the win, he said,

"The boys showed a lot of character. It was an important game for us. We remained calm on the field and that impressed me." He also praised Shakib Al Hasan, stating, "Shakib's calmness at the crease. He struggled in the last few games but he showed what he is capable of and we are really happy for him."

Discussing the playing conditions, Shanto remarked,

"We didn't know how the conditions would behave. It was hard for the batters but they did a great job to adapt and get us to that total. The outfield is nice. The pitch is also good. A few balls stay low but that happens on any wicket. A really good wicket to bat on."

With this win, Bangladesh secured their second victory in three games, placing them second in the points table and edging closer to the Super 8 stage.

Looking ahead, Bangladesh will face Nepal on June 17 at the same venue, aiming to secure their spot in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024.
