In a harrowing incident that shook the cricketing world, star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant faced a near-fatal car crash on the morning of December 30, 2022. Travelling to his native town for a New Year visit with his mother, Pant's car collided with a divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, flipping multiple times before bursting into flames.

The 26-year-old miraculously survived with the help of locals but sustained significant injuries, including cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, and injuries to his wrist. He had cuts on his ankle, toe, and back.

Amidst the chaos, a truck driver named Sushil emerged as Pant's unexpected saviour, rushing to his aid and providing crucial assistance until medical help arrived. Pant, despite the severity of his injuries, managed to convey his identity and situation to the truck driver.

Following initial treatment at Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre in Roorkee, Pant was shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun. Later, he was airlifted to Mumbai a week later and had knee surgery there.

The initial report by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) outlined the extent of Pant's injuries, highlighting the challenges he faced on the path to recovery. Two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe, and abrasions on his back marked the toll on the cricketer's body. Pant's journey to recovery saw him taking strides forward, eventually making his first public appearance in April as he watched his IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals (DC), in action.

The resilient cricketer made an appearance at the auction table for the Capitals, signalling his determination to return to the field. However, a year after the accident, Pant is still on the road to full recovery. While he has regained the ability to walk, the arduous journey towards regaining full fitness and making a comeback to competitive cricket continues.

In a display of unwavering resilience, Pant's story serves as an inspiration, emphasizing that the greatest victories are sometimes achieved off the scoreboard, within the battles faced away from the field. Despite the setbacks, the cricket fraternity eagerly awaits Pant's return, recognizing the strength of character he has demonstrated throughout this challenging period.

Looking ahead, anticipation builds as it is widely expected that Pant will make his much-anticipated comeback for the Delhi Capitals in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).
