'Special Mention To My Dad...' - Abhishek Sharma Spills Beans On Bowling Heroics Vs RR

In a heartwarming message, SRH all-rounder Abhishek Sharma gave credit to his dad for making him work on his bowling skills as he used the same against RR in a must win Qualifier 2 contest of the IPL 2024 season playoffs.

While Abhishek Sharma failed to make a difference for SRH with the bat, he turned up to bowl with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) chase in turmoil.

With the wicket sticking, Pat Cummins trusted Abhishek's leg-spin skills, and the latter lived up to it by chipping two important wickets of Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer.

That being said, in a post-game interview, Abhishek Sharma credited his dad for forcing him to refine his bowling skills.

“To be honest, I didn’t know I would bowl in this match. But I’m working hard with my bowling in the last two years. Special mention to my dad for this," Abhishek said.

He added that he was unaware of Pat Cummins' plans and had no prior knowledge of being used as a bowler in Qualifier 2 against RR.

"When we were batting, it was a bit quicker. But after that, it turned a bit. Patty used the spinners brilliantly. It was his plan to bowl me," he added.

Abhishek added that the wicket turned slow in the chase, and the SRH captain used the spinners exceptionally well.

"I think it’s the pressure that I put in those practice sessions that he gave me the bowling. Me and Shahbaz had the same plan. We decided to ask the batters to play on the backfoot and it helped us," Sharma added.

The all-rounder further revealed that he and Shahbaz Ahmed shared the same plan as they decided to force RR batters on the back foot, which he claims helped them fetch big wickets.

"It came from the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy only. We had a lot of Punjabis in the team. As an individual, I was very confident. The way we practiced and the way we spoke in the dressing room, it was brilliant. When you have that freedom and backing from the management, it helps you immensely," Sharma further added.

Abhishek also endorsed SRH's unwavering backing and freedom, which he believes brought out the best in him.

"Really excited for the final. It was my dream to play the IPL final and really looking forward to playing it," Abhishek concluded.

Overall, Abhishek Sharma revealed that he always dreamt of playing IPL finals and cannot wait to relish that dream on Sunday against KKR.
