England lost its three-match ODI series to hosts India with a game to spare after going down in Nagpur and Cuttack within the last one week. Amidst England’s disappointing campaign, firebrand opening batter Ben Duckett did manage to make quick runs for his team in both games, minting 97 runs so far in the series at a blistering strike rate.

Even though the series is already out of England’s pocket, Duckett is confident that his team will put together a better collective performance in next week’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The 30-year-old further claimed that even a 0-3 defeat to India in the ongoing series will not matter much if England goes on to win the eight-team tournament in Pakistan and in the UAE.

Ben Duckett confident of Champions Trophy 2025

A day before England’s third ODI match against India in Ahmedabad, dashing opening batter Ben Duckett stated that the Englishmen can still win the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in “completely different conditions” of Pakistan and the UAE.

"We have come here for one thing and that is to win the Champions Trophy. We still believe we can do that. It'll be completely different conditions, all different teams we are playing against.”

“If we lose 3-0 to India, I don't care as long as we beat them in the final of the Champions Trophy. If we do that, we probably won't look back on this if we do the business in that competition. It's about peaking at the right time. We have been close against this India side and we have been nowhere near our best. We will always take positives. It's difficult not to get the results here, but hopefully we can turn it around in Pakistan.”

After losing the series opener to India by four wickets in Nagpur, England failed to defend a 300-plus total against Rohit Sharma’s troops in Cuttack on February 9. The Jos Buttler-led visiting team will now face India in a dead-rubber third ODI match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on February 12.

The match marks the final international outing for both sides before the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
