Sri Lanka and Australia will collide in the first ODI of their two-match series at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, February 12. A day affair, the action is slated to commence from 10:00 AM IST onwards.
Sri Lanka will enter the series on a trail of a consolation win over New Zealand in Auckland last month. Back in November, the Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lankan side defeated the New Zealanders 2-0 in a three-match series at home. Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando will start out as some of Sri Lanka’s most prolific run-makers in ODIs off late. Maheesh Theekshana will be expected to lead Sri Lankan spin attack, while fast bowler Asitha Fernando has claimed the highest number of wickets among all his pace mates in their past 10 ODI.
The Australian cricket team secured an emphatic 3-2 series win in England back in September last year. However, a second-string Australian side also lost its three-match ODI rubber to Pakistan just a couple of months ago. With 2025 Champions Trophy on the horizon, the current Australian team in Sri Lanka features the presence of several senior pros like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne.

SL vs AUS: What happened when they last played?
Australia decimated Sri Lanka during their previous ODI meeting back during the 2023 World Cup in Lucknow, India in October 2023. Batting first, Sri Lanka folded up for just 209 in 43.3 overs even though both openers carted half-centuries during their 125-run opening partnership. Australian spinner Adam Zampa scythed through Sri Lanka’s middle-order, while senior pacemen Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins chipped in with two wickets each.
Later during the run-chase, half-centurions Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis paved the way for an easy Australian win with five wickets and nearly 15 overs to spare.
