Mumbai Indians (MI) secured 20-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025 Eliminator at the newly built Mullanpur stadium on May 30, 2025. The highlight of the match was Jasprit Bumrah's match-winning spell under pressure. The star bowler also made headlines for his rare moment of defiance towards MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene.

In the chase, GT, despite the early loss of captain Shubman Gill in the opening over, stayed neck-and-neck with the required run rate. A resilient 84-run third-wicket partnership between Sai Sudharsan (80) and Washington Sundar (48) kept GT firmly in the hunt, putting immense pressure on the MI's dugout.

Jasprit Bumrah Brushes Off Mahela Jayawardene

With Gujarat appearing to gain the upper hand, a visibly animated Jayawardene, alongside batting coach Kieron Pollard, repeatedly sent out instructions to the fielders and bowlers. The MI dugout also gave continuous advice to Jasprit Bumrah, who was stationed near the boundary at the time. However, the senior pacer appeared unfazed by the growing urgency on the sidelines.

According to Hindi broadcast commentator Jatin Sapru, who was on air at the time, Bumrah gestured towards Jayawardene and skipper Hardik Pandya to remain calm “Relax, I know my job well. I’m here. You stay calm and just give me a chance.”

Jasprit Bumrah's Magical Spell

With Mumbai desperate for a breakthrough, Hardik turned to Bumrah in the 14th over. Responding with his trademark precision, Bumrah fired in a blistering yorker that crashed into Washington Sundar’s stumps.

It would not be wrong to say that this moment shifted the momentum decisively back in MI's favor. His animated celebration after the dismissal showcased just how vital that breakthrough was.

Sudharsan followed Sundar back to the pavilion shortly after, and GT found themselves suddenly on the back foot. The Titans eventually fell short and were eliminated out of IPL 2025 and handing MI a hard-fought ticket to Qualifier 2, where they will face now face Punjab Kings (PBKS).
