Gautam Gambhir expressed his sense of excitement and happiness to be rejoining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise as their mentor ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and stands keen to reunite with co-owner and global star icon Shah Rukh Khan.

The former KKR skipper, under whom the franchise transformed from one of the also-rans of IPL cricket to serious contenders with two titles in 2012 and 2014, will resume his association with the side in the role of an influential mentor, who was seen raising the team's paddle at the recent IPL 2024 mini-auction.

The moment the news of Gambhir signing up with KKR came to light, the franchise's fans stood jubilant in the hope that the man would help revive their glory days while Shahrukh took to Twitter to express his warm reception for the former India cricketer.

Gambhir Excited To Reunite With KKR & SRK

In another of the special #AskSRK sessions with his humoungous fanbase on Twitter, Shahrukh had worn a glee and said he is "absolutely" excited for the IPL with "our champ" Gambhir as he is "back where he belongs" after a two-year stint as a mentor with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Now when the same question was posed to Gambhir during his #AskGG session with the fans on the same platform, the 2011 World Cup champion said it couldn't be more obvious that he is excited to be back with KKR.

Gambhir went to the extent of calling Shahrukh his family and said KKR is not just a franchise but "an emotion" for him as their former captain and player.

Gambhir played a major role for KKR during the mini-auction in Dubai on December 19 when the popular franchise raised eyebrows with a mighty INR 24.75-crore bid to secure the services of Aussie left-arm quick Mitchell Starc.

KKR will be hoping that their former skipper's touch works its magic as they aim for revival in the toughest T20 league, having made the playoffs only once after the 2018 edition of the league.
