Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Michael Hussey made a strong statement with respect to uncapped player Sameer Rizvi’s potential. Hussey firmly believes Sameer can replace Ambati Rayudu in CSK’s middle-order and produce wonder for the franchise.

CSK caught everyone’s attention when the team management bought an uncapped player with a mere 11 list A games experience, Sameer Rizvi, for a whopping INR 8.4 crores in the auction.

However, the defending champions suggested that Sameer has the potential to grow into a formidable batter and that they want to groom him in Chennai. Notably, the 20-year-old ranked in the top 10 list of costliest auction picks for the 2024 IPL season.

Meanwhile, ahead of the new season, CSK’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, watched Sameer Rizvi in the nets for the first time and was instantly left impressed with the youngster’s natural ability to strike the ball.

The batting coach was moved with the 20-year-old’s striking ability and called him an exciting prospect capable of scaling new heights with the franchise.

“I think he’ll bat somewhere in the middle-order. He's obviously a natural striker of the ball. I only saw him for the first time yesterday. He looks a very talented young prospect. So, I’m looking forward to working with him personally and just helping him improve his game, obviously for this tournament, but also for the years moving forward. We want him to do well in this IPL, but there’s much more years left in his career,”  Hussey added.

While Michael Hussey does not expect Sameer Rizvi to straightway fill into Rayudu’s shoes, CSK intends to help the batter improve his game and ensure Rizvi gets used to the IPL grind and settles himself into that anchor role.

“So, we can’t expect Rizvi to be doing exactly what Rayudu has been doing for so many years. But, of course, we can start developing him and he’s got a lot of natural ability. So, it’s exciting. It’s exciting to see how far he can go,” Hussey concluded.

That being said, CSK is scheduled to play its season opener against RCB on March 22 in Chennai.
