Karun Nair in Tests (Source: AFP)
Karun Nair made his long-awaited India comeback on the tour of England after a scintillating domestic season. The batter was in great form coming into that tour, and a lot was expected from him on the tough tour. However, Karun Nair failed to live upto the billing and could score only fifty in the four Test matches he played.
The batter also got a chance to bat at three, but could not make it count, and the selectors decided to move on by not selecting him for the West Indies series. The chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that they expected more from the Nair during the England tour, and they now want to provide chances to young Sai Sudharsan.
Thus, Karun Nair is back to the domestic grind now, and in the game against Goa, the batter came up with a heroic 174 in the first innings. Now, while speaking to a reporter after the day's play, Karun Nair expressed his disappointment at being ignored from the Indian Test team. He added that he deserved better and revealed that he had a good conversation about his game with some players.
“Obviously, it is quite disappointing. After the last two years I’ve had, I think I deserved a lot better. More than a series. There are certain individuals in the [Indian] team who have had good conversations with me about how they felt. That’s about it.”
Karun Nair on his future plans
Nair mentions that non-selection does get into the head, but one has to keep doing the job in hand and score runs. He added that he still wishes to play for India, but if that doesn't happen, he would just try to win games for the team he is playing.
“It does get into the head. But the second thought would be to do your job, which is to score runs and let people have their opinions. Honestly, what target can I have next? All I want to do is to play for the country. If you’re not able to do that, the next thing would be to try and win games for the side you are playing for.”
Thus, Karun Nair has made it clear that he has not given up hope of making a comeback and would be looking to continue scoring big hundreds this season.
