Bangladesh’s T20I captain Litton Das has expressed his readiness to take on the Test captaincy if the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) entrusts him with the role. The BCB is in search for a new Test skipper after Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down from the position following the home series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Litton said he has not yet been contacted by the BCB, but would gladly accept the opportunity if offered.

"It's very difficult. So far, I don't know anything about it. If they feel I'm capable, obviously they will have a conversation with me. Let's see what their decision is," Litton said. "As a player, captaining the Test side is a big achievement. I'm sure no player would say no to it. But so far, I haven't heard anything from the cricket board," he added.

BCB to make decision on Test captaincy for Bangladesh

According to reports, Litton Das is currently the front-runner to replace Najmul Hossain Shanto as Test captain. The BCB reportedly approached Shanto after the recent ODI series against West Indies to reconsider his resignation, but he declined.

With Bangladesh scheduled to host Ireland for a two-match Test series beginning November 11 in Sylhet, the board has limited time to make an official announcement. BCB officials are expected to decide soon as preparations for the red-ball series get underway.

It is important to note that Bangladesh recently defeated West Indies 2–1 in the ODI series. They won the first and third matches comfortably but narrowly lost the second in a dramatic Super Over.

Up next, Bangladesh will host the West Indies in a three-match T20I series in Chattogram starting October 27. Next, they will face Ireland in the longest format of the game, with the first Test match starting from November 11. With little time left for this much-awaited series, it will be interesting to see whether BCB hands over the Test captaincy to Litton Das.
