Tilak Varma emerged as a hero of the Asia Cup 2025 final and once again proved to the world that he is one of the players who can serve Indian cricket for a long time. However, the real drama started after the final, as there was no trophy presentation to the Indian cricket team.
The BCCI and Indian players are still waiting for the Asia Cup trophy, and many cricketers have criticised PCB and Mohsin Naqvi for the indifferent behaviour against the champions. Now, in a famous show- 'Breakfast with Champions', Tilak Varma revealed how things unfold after the Asia Cup final.
Tilak Varma shares insight details of drama after Asia Cup final
He revealed that they waited for an hour on the ground for the trophy. He added that all the players were hopeful that the trophy would come to them eventually, but it did not. The cricketer added that he looked around for the trophy, but it was not found anywhere and also revealed that Arshdeep Singh was busy making reels.
“We were actually waiting at the ground for one hour. If you look at the TV visuals, you'll see that I was lying on the ground. The rest were also lying on the ground. Arshdeep Singh was busy making reels. We were just waiting, and we were thinking, ‘The trophy will come anytime now.' It was one hour, and the trophy was nowhere to be found. We were looking around, but the trophy was nowhere to be found,” said Tilak on Breakfast with Champions.
Arshdeep's idea to celebrate without trophy
Tilak Varma also stated that it was Arshdeep Singh's idea to celebrate without a trophy. Arshdeep wanted India to celebrate the way they did after the 2024 T20 World Cup, and once the idea got the nod from other players, they went ahead with it.
“Arshdeep said, let's create an atmosphere. He said we should just celebrate in the same fashion as the T20 World Cup in 2024, minus the trophy. Abhishek Sharma, we, along with 5-6 more people, then gave our nod for the same. Then we went ahead with it,” he added.
Thus, Tilak Varma has made it clear that India had all the intentions to take the trophy, but they did not get it even after a long wait. The celebration was a statement from the Men in Blue, and irrespective of the trophy presentation, they would remain the champions of the tournament.
