Cricket is nothing short of a dream for a cricketer, but sometimes the same game brings the biggest heartbreak for them. That’s the story of Katrun Nair, who returned to Test cricket after eight years, only for it to feel like a final farewell.

As Team India is set to face the West Indies, the Karnataka batter has been snubbed from the squad. The snub created a buzz, and Nair openly shared his thoughts on the decision.

Karun Nair opens up on Test squad snub

After the iconic triple hundred, Karun Nair had to wait eight long years for another chance in whites. With years of consistency, grit, and hard work, he received a comeback call from the side before the England Test series, but the batter failed to make a long-lasting impression. After some initial struggle, he notched his long fifty in the Oval Test.

Making a comeback after a long gap, Karun Nair couldn’t turn a modest innings into a match-defining one. As Team India is set to face the West Indies in a two-match Test series on home soil earlier next month, Karun Nair faced a snub from the squad. Speaking to The Times of India, he revealed he expected the selection but ended up being disappointed.

“Yes, I did expect the selection. I don't know what to say. No words. I don't have many comments to make. It's very difficult for me to answer,” Nair said.

“You should probably ask the selectors what they are thinking. The only thing is, in the last Test match, I scored a fifty when no one else managed in the first innings. So, yeah, I thought I contributed to the team, especially in the last game that we won. But, yeah, it is what it is. Those things don't matter,” he added.

Selector believes in Devdutt Padikkal

As Team India is going through a transition, keeping the future aspect in mind, the selection committee has shown faith in another Karnataka batter, Devdutt Padikkal. The left-handed batter made his debut in 2024 against England and smashed a thrilling half-century on debut. In two Test matches till now, he scored 90 runs with an average of 30.00.

But the batter has impressed the selectors with consistency. Along with dazzling domestic performances, he smashed a classic knock of 150 runs against Australia A in the first unofficial Test match of the ongoing series. As the Karnataka batter is in great form, he can be a great asset for the side in the upcoming Test series.
