Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria didn't hold back as he tore into Shahid Afridi for his controversial comments in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. Afridi, known for his off-field fireworks as much as his on-field ones, sparked a massive storm after bizarrely claiming that India staged the attack themselves and blamed it on Pakistan.
Kaneria Blasts Afridi For Extremist Alignment
Danish Kaneria, never one to mince words, ripped apart Afridi’s remarks and called him out for spreading dangerous narratives and extremist views. He made it clear that Shahid Afridi’s latest comments were the final straw.
Calling out Afridi’s history of leaning towards extremist ideologies, Kaneria said such individuals should never be given a platform in India or anywhere else.
"He has consistently aligned himself with extremist views. In my opinion, he should not be given a platform on Indian television or within the country," Kaneria said bluntly.
But that wasn't all, Kaneria went a step further and revaled a disturbing personal experience with Afridi:
"Additionally, he tried to persuade me to convert to Islam and declined to share a meal with me, which I found deeply disrespectful."
Afridi’s Controversial Claims Ignite Outrage
In a video that has now gone viral for all the wrong reasons, Shahid Afridi accused India of staging the Pahalgam terror attack. Mocking the Indian Army, Afridi alleged that despite having 8 lakh soldiers, not a single one turned up while the terrorists were on a rampage.
"The terrorists continued to kill people in Pahalgam for an hour, and not a single Indian soldier out of 8 lakh showed up. But when they did, they blamed Pakistan," Afridi said while addressing reporters in Pakistan.
He didn’t stop there. Afridi doubled down, claiming:
"India carries out terrorism itself, kills its own people, and then puts the blame on Pakistan."
Such reckless statements, without a shred of evidence, have rightly drawn sharp criticism from all corners, including former players like Kaneria.
Afridi Tries To Play The Peace Card
In typical Afridi style, after dropping a bomb, he tried to cover the blast by preaching peace. He claimed that Pakistan has always wanted good relations with India and that Islam teaches peace, not terror.
"No country or religion supports terrorism. We always support peace. Islam teaches us peace only, and Pakistan never supports such kinds of acts," Afridi said.
He also talked about the threats the Pakistan team faced while touring India during the 2016 T20 World Cup and advocated for sports diplomacy between the two nations.
But given the timing and nature of his earlier remarks, it felt like closing the stable door after the horse had bolted.
Background To The Pahalgam Attack And India’s Crackdown
The anger over Afridi’s comments comes against the backdrop of a horrific terrorist attack carried out by The Resistance Force (TRF), a Pakistan-backed group affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The cowardly attack claimed 26 innocent lives in Kashmir on April 22.
