Delhi Capitals (DC) have roped in Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for the sidelined South African speedster, Lungi Ngidi, for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ngidi, known for his lethal pace and pinpoint accuracy, has been forced to bow out of IPL 2024 due to an unfortunate injury. Over his 14 IPL matches, Ngidi has claimed 25 wickets, making his absence a notable gap in DC's bowling arsenal.

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals welcome Jake Fraser-McGurk as Lungi Ngidi's Replacement

Stepping into the breach, Jake Fraser-McGurk, with two ODIs under his belt for Australia, will don the DC jersey for his reserve price of INR 50 Lac.

This development comes on the back of a jarring setback for the Capitals, as their recent star acquisition, Harry Brook, withdrew from IPL 2024 citing personal reasons. Initial speculations had pegged Fraser-McGurk as Brook's replacement.

However, turning the page, the latest communique from the IPL has clarified Fraser-McGurk's role as Ngidi's substitute, leaving the spot vacated by Brook still up for grabs.

Meanwhile, in the midst of these changes, there's a silver lining for the Delhi franchise with the return of their captain, Rishabh Pant, to the fold after a 15-month absence. Pant's comeback follows a forgettable chapter in his life involving a life-threatening road accident. His return will boost Delhi Capitals, who are eager to chart a course back to their former glory.

The Capitals' recent history has been a roller coaster ride, with highs between 2019-2021, including three consecutive playoff appearances and a memorable run to the final in 2020. However, the past couple of seasons have seen the team caught in a tailspin, ending in a penultimate finish last year, just above Sunrisers Hyderabad.

With the ship steadied by Pant's return and the new blood infused by Fraser-McGurk, the Delhi Capitals squad is setting sail once again with an aim to recapture their erstwhile magic. Their journey in IPL 2024 is set to commence with a clash against Punjab Kings on March 23 in Chandigarh.
