The SA20 is on fire, delivering non-stop T20 thrills that keep fans on the edge of their seats. As some players are making waves with their bats, others are having a tough time, just like Dewald Brevis.

Watching Brevis’ long-standing struggle, South African great Herschelle Gibbs spoke about his lack of game management. Not holding back, Baby AB fired back at the former star, defending his approach with sharp words.

Brevis responds to Herschelle Gibbs’ criticism

Ever since South Africa discovered Dewald Brevis, fans have been hoping for a new AB de Villiers brilliance. As he has showcased his excellence to the world, his recent form in the ongoing SA20 is raising concerns. Starting the season with six, the struggle grew over time. His unbeaten 36 against MI Cape Town remained his highest score to date.

Witnessing his long-standing struggle in the ongoing tournament, South African legend Herschelle Gibbs slammed him for his recent struggles, citing his need to be more responsible. While talking to reporters, Dewald Brevis fired back at Gibbs’ claims.

“That doesn't bother me. If I think of those legends, or whoever they are, they're no longer playing. So yeah, it's their comments, so it doesn't affect me. I don't even look at it. I'm enjoying it out here, I'm hitting the ball as I should. I'm all good. There's always outside noise, whether you play SA20 or whatever you play,” he said.

Brevis ignores the outside noise and focuses on his game

In the ongoing tournament, Brevis just scored 86 runs in seven games and yet to cross the 40-run mark. Though Pretoria Capitals are standing in third position on the points table, there is a serious buzz over Brevis’s ongoing form. Brushing off all the criticism, the Protea youngster confidently says the outside noise doesn’t affect him at all.

“So whether it's World Cup or whatever, it stays a cricket game, it stays a ball, a white ball. And whatever it is, I'm just going to enjoy it and just play how I always play. So there's always outside noise. It doesn't affect me,” he added.

Brevis’ form woes spark concern ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

The T20 World Cup is just a month away, and all the teams are gearing up well, aiming for a successful outing. As the South African side announced their T20 World Cup squad, featuring Dewald Brevis. The young Protea batter has showcased his excellence in the shortest format, but his current form must be a worry for the South African side.

In the last edition of the marquee event, they ended up being runners-up after a heartbreaking defeat against India. As the new edition is arriving soon, the Proteas will appear on the big stage with the hope of a magical turnaround.

Before that, finding Brevis’ form is crucial, as he could be the dark horse for South Africa in the marquee tournament. As the tournament is set to go live from February 7, South Africa will play their first match on February 9 against Canada.
