Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been a crucial figure in the Indian team since his debut against England at Nagpur in December 2012, has overcome yet another setback. Despite having an illustrious career that boasts of 280 wickets and 2893 runs in 69 Test matches, Jadeja's journey has been frequently marred by injuries.

Jadeja points to hectic schedule as injury culprit

His most recent comeback was for the third Test against England in Rajkot, following a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the second match in Visakhapatnam.

Now at 35, Ravindra Jadeja, acutely aware of the physical demands of international cricket and the toll it has taken on his body, is adopting a more cautious approach to his game. The ace all-rounder has expressed a deliberate intention to safeguard his physical well-being, even if it means altering his style of play to avoid unnecessary risks on the field.

"I would like to give my 100% and save my body and keep away from diving when not required. That’s it. I don’t think about that too much because it has happened before. As the match progresses, the body will get used to the flow and you will forget that there was an injury. I will get into rhythm in one or two days,” said Jadeja while speaking to the reporters.

Despite the inherent unpredictability of sports injuries, Jadeja has remained optimistic about managing his body more judiciously to prevent future injuries.

“I can get injured again tomorrow. I can work on my body more smartly and do it carefully and hope there will be no problem. But there is no guarantee,” added the southpaw.

The frequency of injuries since 2021, including damage to his thumb, forearm, rib, knee, and most recently, his hamstring, has been a source of frustration for Jadeja. He attributed this to the intense schedule of modern cricket and his active presence in critical positions on the field across all formats of the game.

“It is frustrating but the cricket has increased these days and that is at the back of the mind always. I can’t hide anywhere in the field, I am always in hotspots in any format and that may be the reason,” concluded Jadeja.

On the cricketing front, Jadeja has returned with the bang in the Rajkot Test, stitching a vital partnership with captain Rohit Sharma after India were reeling for 33-3 inside 9 overs. At the time of partnership, the local boy is racing towards his half-century.
