Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten has claimed that the game of cricket does not get bigger than India vs Pakistan matches.

Speaking with the press a day prior to the highly-awaited Group A game of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in New York, the former South African batter also expressed his delight of being a part of the grand occasion.

Kirsten previously coached the Indian cricket team, and his successful tenure culminated with Team India lifting the 2011 World Cup at home.

Gary Kirsten, who coached Team India when they defeated perennial arch-rivals Pakistan in the semifinal of the 2011 World Cup, is set to be a part of yet another India vs Pakistan World Cup showdown, albeit as the head coach of the ‘Men in Green’ at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Speaking with the reporters a day prior to Pakistan’s must-win match, the former South African batter expressed his delight of being part of the “great occasion” and claimed that the game of cricket does not get bigger than India vs Pakistan battles.

“It's great to be part of, I certainly see it as a massive privilege to be part of these games. Cricket doesn't get bigger than this. I think it's going to be a great occasion tomorrow. First kind of India-Pakistan game in America,” Kirsten said.

Gary Kirsten joined the Pakistan cricket team as head coach back in May last month. In his short tenure so far, the ‘Men in Green’ lost the four-match T20I series in England and sustained a shock defeat at the hands of USA in their opening match of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Yet to open their account on the Group A points table, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan team need to defeat India on June 9 in a bid to stay in contention for Super Eight qualification. The much-awaited contest will be staged at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium and the action will commence from 8:00 PM IST onwards.
