India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made headlines in the first two Tests against England for his constant on-field chatter. He was seen talking to himself while batting and revealing the reason, Pant said his coach, Tarak Singh, taught him this mantra to stay focused.

Pant, the vice-captain of India’s Test team, has been in sublime form, scoring 342 runs in 4 innings against England so far. He hit 2 tons back-to-back in the first Test at Leeds, thus scripting history.

Rishabh Pant Reveals Why He Keeps Talking While Batting

Meanwhile, stump microphones have picked up Rishabh Pant talking to himself while batting, and fans have been curious. He was seen calming himself down and avoiding rash hitting.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the third Test at Lord’s, Pant finally explained why he does it. He said this mantra was taught to him by his late coach, Tarak Singh. While he always used to practice this habit, the stump mic audio has made it viral among fans.

"The general idea is to keep talking to yourself as a batsman. Hamesha se hi bada hota hai, but stump mic se zyada sunai deta hai, toh aap logon ko thoda zyada pata ho jata hai. As a batsman, I am doing the same thing that I used to do as a kid. My coach late Tarak Sinha sir used to tell me - keep talking to yourself. I still try to do the same things he taught me," Pant said.

But it’s not just with the bat. Pant’s energetic and often funny commentary from behind the stumps has also entertained fans. His sharp instructions to bowlers and playful jabs at opposition players are becoming a regular feature of Indian Test matches.

Pant Breaks Silence On Lord’s Pitch

With the third Test between India and England set to begin on July 10 at Lord’s, the focus has shifted to the pitch. Images of the surface showed a greener-than-usual track, sparking talks that England may have changed their pitch plan after India’s dominant win at Edgbaston.

But India vice-captain Rishabh Pant isn’t buying into the speculation. Talking to media at Lord's, he said:

"See, as a team, generally, what we plan is to play according to the conditions given to us. We don’t want to think about what the opposition is thinking—whether they are changing their plans or not. Whatever they’re doing, we’ll do our best and do better from there. Simple."

India had scored over 1000 runs and taken 20 wickets at Edgbaston, winning the second Test in style. Pant confirmed that India’s mantra remains simple: take 20 wickets, regardless of the pitch.
