The countdown to the Asia Cup 2025 has begun but instead of the hype, it is uncertainty that’s doing the rounds. Political tension, logistical hurdles and doubts over India’s clash with Pakistan have put the whole tournament in limbo.

ACC Meeting On July 25–26 To Decide Asia Cup 2025 Fate

With India as the designated host and Pakistan in the same group, all eyes have turned to New Delhi for the final nod. The Pahalgam terror attack has only worsened the situation, leaving the BCCI waiting on government clearance. Amidst all this chaos, the fate of the tournament may just boil down to one crucial event.

A major decision-making meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is set to take place on July 25–26 in Dhaka and it could decide whether the Asia Cup stays on track or gets knocked off course.

The update came from The Times of India’s Senior Assistant Editor Gaurav Gupta, who tweeted:

“An important meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will be held on July 25–26 in Dhaka… this meeting is likely to decide the fate of the Asia Cup, which is to be hosted by India. India will be represented in the meeting by BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla.”

If things go south at the table, it won’t just be venue talk. it’ll be tournament-or-no-tournament talk. While the original plan is to host the tournament in India from September 5 with the blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash on September 7, a Plan B has already been chalked out.

According to Sports Tak, the BCCI is prepared to shift the tournament to the UAE if things don’t go as planned. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have been handpicked as potential hosts, ready to roll out the red carpet at short notice.

BCCI Not Happy With Dhaka

Adding fuel to the fire, BCCI has expressed reservations about the ACC meeting being held in Dhaka due to ongoing political instability in Bangladesh. In fact, they have officially requested a venue change and have even hinted that they might skip the meeting altogether if the venue stays put.

What If Asia Cup 2025 Is Called Off?

This year’s Asia Cup is set to be played in the T20 format, making it a crucial dress rehearsal for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be held in India. The stakes are high, not just for bragging rights, but for teams to fine-tune combinations and strategies on the big stage.

If the Asia Cup doesn’t go ahead, the BCCI isn’t short of ideas. A tri-series is in the pipeline for that same window. Originally, India was set to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series in August, which got shelved. Now, Sri Lanka Cricket has proposed a similar series, with both ODIs and T20Is.

For now, everything hinges on what unfolds during the July 25–26 ACC meeting in Dhaka. Whether it is green lights, venue switches, or alternate plans, this meeting could be a real game-changer.
