On July 10, 2019, India’s veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played one of the greatest innings in World Cup history, nearly pulling off an impossible win for India in the semifinal against New Zealand at Old Trafford, Manchester. His 77-run blitz offered a ray of hope for India in a tough game.

India were in pursuit of 240 runs in a rain-affected semifinal match. The pressure was extremely high, and the Indian supporters had their hopes pinned on a final berth.

However, what followed in the top order was a disaster. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli, India’s top three, were all dismissed for just 1 run each, leaving the team reeling at 5 for 3.

Ravindra Jadeja Almost Produced A Miracle For India In The 2019 World Cup

Soon, India were struggling at 92 for 6, and it looked like the game was over. But then, Ravindra Jadeja walked in and gave Indian fans a reason to believe again.

Teaming up with MS Dhoni, Jadeja played with class, confidence, and courage. He began cautiously but soon did not take long to change gears. He tackled the bowlers, particularly the spinners, and started hitting boundaries using his signature flicks, cuts, and slog sweeps.

Ravindra Jadeja also ran aggressively in between the wickets, keeping Dhoni on his toes while letting the scoreboard run. What made this knock even more special was the stage and pressure.

It was a World Cup semifinal, and India’s top order had failed. Jadeja rose to the moment, silenced his critics, and scored a brilliant 77 runs from just 59 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes.

He brought India close to the target with a 116-run partnership with Dhoni, and for a brief moment, it seemed like India could pull off a miracle. But after Jadeja was dismissed, attempting to hit a big shot, the dream shattered.

MS Dhoni got run out soon after, and India lost the game eventually by 18 runs. Though India did not emerge victorious, Jadeja's innings captured hearts through his courage, talent, and unparalleled fighting spirit.
